R.I.P. Joe Nuxhall

The ol' left-hander rounded third and headed for home. Cincinnati legend Joe Nuxhall passed away overnight. Joe was the youngest player to ever appear in a major league game at the age of 15 in 1944, pitching 2/3 of an inning for the Cincinnati Reds. Joe was also known as the long-time broadcasting partner of Marty Brennaman on the Reds radio network.

Many young baseball fans grew up with Joe on 700 WLW (or one of the Reds' many affiliate radio stations throughout the country). He and Marty made a great team in the booth and helped many of us fall in love with the game of baseball.

Nuxhall is one of the candidates for the 2008 Ford C. Frick Award, presented annually to a baseball broadcaster for major contributions to the game. Fans are allowed to vote once per day until the end of November for up to three broadcasters to appear on the final ballot. You can vote for Nuxhall by clicking here.
